Saturday, Blake and I, got to help out with the Texas Mission of Mercy Smiles foundation, which was an amazing service opportunity. Our ward had decided to do this as our ward service project and we though it was a great way for Blake to finish his Citizenship in the Nation merit badge. This was a foundation that provides dental care for the less fortunate.
Blake got to help out entertaining kids while they waited to recieve dental treatment.
I of course spent time assisting hygienists and being one myself. Blake got to spend the last half of the day assisting me and working with patients. It was fun to have my son working with me! He was a great dental assistant!
Gotta love the spiffy head lamp I got to use and the spiffy gowns we had to wear!
Blake got really good at cleaning the units after each patient. Even taking care of the not-so-fun clean-up tasks!
This is a panoramic view of the High school gym where the event was held. It's hard to appreciate what was going on here, but there were almost 40 units like these with dentists and assistants. This was the row of Hygiene chairs. So it must have taken 100s of volunteers! This is how we felt after we were done! It was exausting! But worth it!
The patients we saw were so thankful and made it all worthwhile! We got to see how much work goes into a production like that as we helped with some of the clean-up at the end.
Overall it was a really cool experience! Definately something we would do again!
